Pittman has received over $48,000 from Walt Disney Parks and Resorts and about $42,000 from Tampa-based committee Educators and Parents for School Excellence. David Steinglass, a retired private equity fund manager and Joseph Falk, a gay rights activist, are both prominent Democratic fundraisers. Among the targets is House District 65, which represents downtown Tampa, South Tampa and areas along Old Tampa Bay. Democrat Ashley Brundage, a business owner, is challenging first-time Republican incumbent Karen Gonzalez Pittman, a business owner and former public school employee. And in 2020, Biden outperformed Trump among voters in those same neighborhoods, precinct data shows. Driskell said Democrats looked at where they have an edge in voter registration.

Topeka serves on the board of directors for Grassroots Leadership. Chelsea’s House NYC was created by Topeka K. Sam and Vanee Sykes, both formerly incarcerated women who met while in Danbury Federal Prison in 2013. Chelsea’s House NYC is for single women who have experienced incarceration and are returning to New York City. Housing is available to women for up to one year as they readjust to seeing their families, being in their communities, healing themselves and seeking employment Chelsea’s House and educational opportunities. At the conclusion of the year, our plan is for women to move into permanent housing, while retaining their connection to Chelsea’s House NYC for support.
