Some five to six years ago, we watched with a trepidation of Full HD. Then this resolution seemed something from another world, a miracle, turning a blurry picture into a super-fair image. And now today such matrices are perceived as something granted, and the industry takes the next step to Ultra HD, smoothly moving from 1920×1080 to 3840×2160.

The corresponding TVs and monitors represent almost every month, but they all encounter the same problems as Full HD at one time – the lack of content, reproducing equipment and, of course, unbearable price tags for ordinary users. Funny, but fight this outrage like six years ago – they release intermediate options. Hand in hand with Full HD then went 720p (HD Ready), and side by side with Ultra HD walks 2K – 2560×1440. We will now tell you about one of the similar “transitional” solutions, on tests – IIMAMA PROLITE XB2776QS, which grabbed our “display of the year” reward and took an honorable place at the test stand.

Design

The novelty is designed strictly. It rests on the table with a round leg and is held by a bracket with an angle of inclination of 28 degrees vertically and 90 degrees horizontally. The screen itself encircles the black matte frame made of plastic, decorated with a barely noticeable white logo and the name of the model. Below is a large power indicator glowing in blue, next to it – all control buttons. There are few of the latter, but the internal menu is logical, the set set is enough for the eyes.

To communicate with sources, Prolite XB2776QS has one analog D-Sub (VGA) and digital DVI-D, HDMI and DisplayPort. And as a bonus IIYAMA offers a pair of built-in speakers and to them one 3.5 mm jack for entering and output of sound.

Heart

The main element Prolite XB2776QS-screen-built on the basis of a 27-inch LCD matrix type AH-IPS. Among its advantages are the maximum viewing angles of both vertically and horizontally, as well as one of the best color transfers in its class. Note that they did not close the panel with gloss in IIYAMA: the display is matte, the picture on it can be seen even with the bright sun outside the window. Although the coating is not the most important thing in this AH-IPS, its resolution is much more interesting in 2560×1440.

In pixel terms, this is about 1.77 times greater than that of Full HD, and in terms of PPI, the density per inch is higher by 33%. In practice, this means that the points of Prolite XB2776QS than competitors – respectively, it draws the image more clearly. And, I must admit, the effect is visible to the naked eye.

Of course, the “wow” that was once caused by Full HD, but the feeling that someone was erased by the dust from the monitor is in place, and it is especially good in games. Old projects literally bloom, and new ones, with support for “heavy” textures, look straight like a real non -vusten. Naturally, it works very cool on such a matrix with professional graphic editors. And even if not all programs are ready to scale normally the menu for fresh requirements, for the sake of clarity, the picture with this will have to come to terms, however, as with many other things.

A spoon of tar

Take the same films. In the native 2560×1440, the video does not really exist, and finding an entry in Ultra HD – that is still a problem. Yes, the standard Full HD and even 720p with a good bitrate look nice on such a matrix, but the streaming broadcast from the Internet looks depressing. The image is either too blurry or pixelized. Moreover, even YouTube sins with its 1080p – to save Google's place actively presses the videos, and their quality does not correspond to the level of the display.

Similar difficulties with ordinary pictures: in 2560×1440 to find something interesting except wallpaper for desktop is almost impossible. Plus, at the moment, most Internet pages are optimized under 1280×768, or in extreme cases-under Full HD, so on 2K the text often becomes very small, and the site itself literally falls apart into parts.

Of course, after this, many will now think: “Why is it necessary with such problems,” – however, the devil is not so terrible as he is painted. You can fight with small scraps of sites with small flaws of sites, and with the video it is quite possible to start accustoming yourself to qualitative content. And, as it seems to us, this is not such a high fee for enjoying a clear image and playing in the resolution of a near future.

Pros:

Big diagonal

High -quality matrix

High resolution

Cons:

Little content

Large load on the video card

There is no factory calibration

Choice of a professional

Since the AH-IPS matrix is considered professional and ask for the appropriate money for it, we were not shy and checked our experimental in all basic parameters. The results were beyond praise.

Brightness – the amount of light radiated by the display, determines the intensity of colors and is measured in KD/m2.

The maximum declared IIYAMA is 350 KD/m2 and is confirmed by our dimensions. This level helps a lot in bright light outside the window, but we do not recommend working with similar values - this is a very serious vision blow. Everything that is below 160 cd/m2 is considered a comfortable value for the eyes, and monitors are calibrated in 120 cd/m2 for professional work.

351 KD/m2

After calibration

120 KD/m2

Contrast – the ratio of the brightness of the lightest and darkest point. The higher it is, the more detailed and deeper the image.

The maximum value specified in the Monitor 1000: 1. In fact, it is very rare, t.e. scare to get 700: 1 not worth it – this is a great result.

Minimum brightness – Roughly speaking, shows how well a black color is given. Ideally, it should be zero, but since the illumination of the LCD at all works, this value is unattainable. So it's better when the result is less. Shown 0.17 kD/m2 – more than good.

Factory settings

0.45 KD/m2

After calibration

0.17 KD/m2

Delta E (average) – a dimensionless value indicating the difference between what color the monitor shows in reality and what it would be to give out in an ideal version.

It is believed that if the Delta E lies in the interval from a unit to three, then the color rendering of the monitor is good, if the value is less than a unit, the monitor is suitable for professional work with graphics.

Load

For the clarity of the picture you have to pay not only the lack of content and problems in the menu, but also. The number of pixels increased by 1.77 times makes very serious requirements to the iron. Our tests shows that compared to Full HD, the number of FPS drops by about 25-35%.
